Drama Queens is an amateur theatre group, and "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" was their first production. They needed basic publicity items, beginning with a poster.

To keep costs low, the playbill was a single-fold card. Drama Queens decided to go with a full-color option on the cover, however, to retain the colors of Picasso's controversial painting.
