American Foreign Policy, the evil that supports dictators and tyrants in third world countries, remains unchanged regardless of which party is in power: for almost 60 years, Democrats and Republicans have battled over the most superficial aspects of their foreign policy: overt or covert. The basics remain the same - in order to remain a world power, it is essential to control energy sources, and to oppress nations that could challenge their supremacy. As such, the wars they have fought (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq) and the notorious Black Ops of the CIA, have done a wonderful, unimpeded job, and it has never mattered who sits at the helm. Dubya, on the other hand, has undone most of the ‘good’ works of past governments. With his mandate from God, he has openly challenged the status quo of, for instance, American relations with Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Worse, his righteous rhetoric has exposed the hypocrisy of America to the world in a way even he, I am sure, did not anticipate.
Take, for instance, his stance on the Stem Cell Research and Abortion issues. Seriously? Are you telling me its an affront to God that you kill an unborn child, but is totally acceptable to starve, through sanctions, thousands of Iraqi and Palestinian children? Is it a serious sin to destroy a foetus, but the hand of God guided you to kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, Lebanese and Palestinians? Is it really okay to aid and abet Israel to impose an apartheid state over Occupied Territories in Palestine, but not okay for two homosexuals to be seen as a couple? To the Israelis, I ask them this: have you forgotten your own gospel? Were you too not once an oppressed people, like the Palestinians are today? Isn’t one of your commandments “thou shalt not kill”? Or is that ancient ‘rhetoric’ that ceased to apply after WWII? To do unto the Palestinians as the Pharoahs did unto you, well, all I can say is that your rage is misdirected. You need to be one country over, and harassing Hosni Mubarak for reparation.
And, if we’re going with that one (do unto others, etc.), then it should be perfectly okay for countries around the world (Cuba, Nicaragua, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, USSR… too many countries to list here) to come into your land to assassinate moderate leaders and bring oppressive dictators into power, and then incite extremists and rebels to revolt, to arm those rebel factions so that civil war may ensue, to launch a nuclear bomb on two of your largest cities, to dictate economic policies, without regard for ground-level realities, to impose sanctions arbitrarily, to flood the land with addictive narcotics, so that your populations are rotting on the street and civilization grinds to a halt, to destroy all your cultural and historical icons (buildings, manuscripts, books, movies, sculptures, monuments), to burn your forests and small towns with Napalm, and under the pretext of a “pre-emptive” strike, invade and occupy your land and bring in corporations to rape you of your natural resources.
Seriously? Is Dubya the left hand of God? Does he get visions in his dreams, is he the modern-day Joan of Arc? Am I totally misreading his honest, well-intentioned crusade for hypocrisy? I guess only time will tell - Joan was burnt at the stake for her heresy, and while we won’t do that to Dubya, will the Church eventually canonize him for his actions today?
